Evergreen’s Snowball Enduros Will Set the Tone for 2016

When Jason Makarewicz took over the operations of Evergreen Raceway in St. Johns, PA he knew that the task ahead would be a huge undertaking. His hard work and dedication will finally pay off this Saturday when the 2016 season opener at the speedway gets underway. Advertised as the “Snowball 100s”, three winter Enduro divisions will take to the track for the first time in nearly two years.

“Nearly 80 cars are pre-registered for two divisions alone and many more are expected to register at the track on race day”, noted Makarewicz, who is a former Late Model competitor and Factory Stock team owner at the speedway.

“We have had so much support from many people over the last three months and I want to thank them all. The absolute best promotion for any race track is for the fans and drivers to help promote it as well. With this event, everyone stepped up, chipped in and helped spread the word. It means more than they will ever know.”

Two popular divisions are slated to take the first green flag on the afternoon of Saturday, January 9th– the 4-cylinders and 6/8-cylinders. Both will compete in 100-lap events and fight to the finish for the $500 prize. Due to the overwhelming support, a third division, ‘Open Competition’, has been added and depending on car count, those drivers will compete for a minimum of 50-laps.

Makarewicz admits that he’s nervous about the first race of the 2016 season, yet he’s excited as well.

“It’s less than a week away and I can’t eat or sleep. A successful start to the season really depends on this one show. I just pray that all of the drivers, fans and crew members have a great time and realize that this annual event is all about that- fun.”

Many businesses have jumped on board to help support the show as well, including CK Auto Service and Race Fab. They have agreed to pay the 6th through 10th place drivers in the four and six/eight cylinder divisions $25 each. They are also the victory lane sponsor for 2016.

MoTorsport Video Production is offering a $50 CASH prize to the driver of the car with the coolest paint scheme in the 100s. This will be one overall prize (4-cyl. & 6/8-cyl. Mixed) and not one prize for each division. Also, “Tito Juice” and Electric Frog Designs have come onboard to supply the trophies and plaques for both divisions.

Everyone who plans to attend the Snowball 100s are asked to bring a canned food item, which will be donated to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

The concession stand will be open for business and both coffee and hot chocolate will be sold for only $1 per cup with FREE refills.

The pit gates will open before 11 AM. Pit admission is $25. The grandstands are slated to open at 12 noon and grandstand admission is just $5. Children 10 years of age and younger will be admitted for FREE.

The green flag is set to drop and the first 100-lap Enduro will take the green at 1 PM. For more information regarding Evergreen Raceway, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com. Please like their Facebook page as well.
