Speedway Staff Visit Children at South Florida Care Facilities

Homestead-Miami Speedway employees were spreading holiday cheer on Friday with Santa Claus as they delivered holiday presents to PATCHES and the ‘Speediatrics’ unit at Homestead Hospital. Santa and the Speedway employees delivered wrapped presents to the pediatric patients for the annual holiday toy delivery at the two care facilities, a tradition that began in 2007.

The team began the day at PATCHES, a non-profit facility staffed by pediatric nurses, certified teachers and respiratory and rehab therapists that provide nursing care to children with extreme medical needs, as well as support and education to the caregivers of the children at the facility located in Florida City. Homestead-Miami Speedway donated more than 75 gifts to children as young as newborns and as old as teenagers. The next stop for Santa was at Homestead Hospital, visiting children in the ‘Speediatrics’ unit, Betty Jane France’s Emergency Room, and the newly dedicated ‘Speediatrics’ pediatric unit at Homestead Hospital, supported by Homestead-Miami Speedway, NASCAR and community donations.

The toy delivery is an annual event that began in 2007, with toys donated by Homestead-Miami Speedway’s charitable arm, “Driving for a Cause.” Homestead-Miami Speedway’s “Driving for a Cause” uses the popularity of motorsports to focus public attention and funding on South Florida youth and educational programs. “Driving for a Cause” is a donor-advised fund under the umbrella of The NASCAR Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that hosts numerous charity events. In addition, The NASCAR Foundation sponsors the ‘Speediatrics’ pediatric emergency response unit at Homestead Hospital.
