Homestead-Miami Speedway’s Al Garcia Is Recipient of SAMA’s Terry Jackson Memorial Award

Al Garcia, a Miami native and the long-time Vice President of Operations at Homestead-Miami Speedway, was presented with the 2015 Terry Jackson Memorial Award by the Southern Automotive Media Association.  Garcia was honored at SAMA’s recent November luncheon which was held at the Miami Beach Convention Center during the Miami Auto Show.

“SAMA could not have picked a better person to receive this award,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer.  “Al is an original member of the Homestead-Miami Speedway staff and came up through the ranks, working under our founder, Ralph Sanchez, starting back in the days of the Miami Grand Prix in 1983.  Al has a true passion, not only for our track, but for auto racing in general.  He is an outstanding ambassador for the sport here in South Florida.”

The award is named after Terry Jackson, a former Miami Herald writer/editor and SAMA member who passed away from cancer in 2009.  He was a racing enthusiast.

The award is judged by SAMA”s executive committee and given to a member who best exemplifies the spirit of giving, and working for the benefit of ALL in SAMA.
