Wilcox and Gillespie Split School’s Out! Twin 40’s!

The most recent champions of the Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter division continued to assert their dominance over the field Saturday night during the Schools Out! Twin 40’s at Speedway 660.

Darren Wilcox (#32) and BJ Gillespie (#69) split the twin 40-lap features held for the Sharp Shooter division. For Wilcox, it was a bounce back from a bit of a slow start to the season, as he assumed the lead in the opening laps and set sail to a convincing victory over the field. As Wilcox drove into the sunset, it was a spirited battle for second with Wesley Harnish (#61) emerging ahead of Curtis Tremblay (#00), BJ Gillespie (#69) and Tyler Collett (#21).

The second forty-lap feature saw BJ Gillespie continue his winning ways, besting Matt Martin (#33) for the second time in as many events. A hungry Wesley Harnish would score another podium finish on the night with a third place effort, over  Randy Storey got behind the wheel for Rebecca Rose (#44) and wheeled to a fourth place result, with Curtis Tremblay completing the top five. The second feature was a bit of a wilder affair with a few incidents eliminating several competitors from the race.

Daniel Atyeo (#83) and Tyler Collett were victorious in ten-lap heat races to start the day. Twenty-one (21) entries partook in the Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter division races.

For the first half of the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division feature it looked like it was going to be Kevin Moore’s (#88) day to return to victory lane as he chases an elusive track championship at Speedway 660. But after coming up one spot at the Riverview Ford Season Opener, Devin Snell (#10) was not to be denied as he overtook Moore and checked out to a convincing victory. Moore would hang on for a runner-up finish while Ian Rasmussen (#81) claimed another podium finish in third. Rookie Marcel Leblanc (#30) earned his first top five finish with Calvin Rankin (#45) rounding out the top five.

Moore was the winner of the ten-lap heat race to start the day. Seven (7) Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock competitors were in attendance.

Brady Creamer (#10) returned to Summit Dodge Sportsman victory lane at Speedway 660 after one of the best races of the night! Creamer would lead only one lap – the last lap – to score the victory after a great race between himself, Matt Rodgers (#42) and Kenny MacKenzie Jr (#85), with Rodgers and MacKenzie finishing second and third respectively after Rodgeres led much of the race. Koven Lewis (#46) and Richard Atkinson (#40) rounded out the top five.

Rodgers and Alexandra O’Blenis (#74) scored heat race victories for the Summit Dodge Sportsman division. Ten competitors were in the field for the 75-lap feature.

Luc McLaughlin (#11) sent a message to the competitors of the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division heading into the prestigious Ricky Bobby 150. McLaughlin took the lead late after coming from deep in the field to capture his second win of the season – making him the first two-time winner of the season for the division. Justin Cole (#38) continued his podium streak with a runner-up finish

Rookie drivers claimed impressive heat race victories to start the day, with Dan Gillespie (#83) and Daniel Atyeo (#15) making their first trips to Riverview Ford victory lane. Atyeo led much of the race and crossed the line in third but was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Fifteen (15) Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock competitors were in attendance.

Chris Wilson (#2W) earned his series leading seventh career Atlantic Modified Tour feature victory at Speedway 660 during the 35-lap feature for the Modifieds. Wilson took the lead on the race’s thirteenth lap and drove away to a convincing victory. “Mr. Excitement” Doug Matchett drove to a strong runner-up finish while former Sportsman driver Zean Dutcher (#55) returned to the podium in the Geary Woods with a third place result. Joe Hoyt (#17) was the top finishing local driver behind the trio of Miramichi drivers in fourth, with former Sharp Shooter champion Tristin Harris (#7) posting a strong top five finish.

Wilson and Matchett took ten-lap heat race victories. Eleven cars were in attendance with the feature running caution free for the Modifieds.

In one week, Speedway 660 returns to action for one of the biggest races of the season with the 6th Annual Ricky Bobby Street Stock 150! Upwards of forty entries are expected to race for their share of the record $28,000+ in money and prizes on the line, setting the stage for the biggest Street Stock race ever held in Atlantic Canada. Championship points racing from the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division and Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter division is also on tap. Action will start at 6pm on Saturday June 29th at Speedway 660.
