Wine and beer festival returns to MIS on Saturday, May 21

Here’s looking at you, Michigan International Speedway.

Michigan International Speedway, a 1,400-acre historic NASCAR racetrack in Southeastern Michigan’s Lenawee and Jackson Counties, will host its second annual Great Lakes Wine Fest on Saturday, May 21.

This event will feature the tastes and toasts of Michigan wineries, Michigan breweries and Michigan eateries in a unique setting — a NASCAR racetrack.

“We are really excited to bring back the Great Lakes Wine Fest this year,” MIS President Roger Curtis said. “We had a fantastic event last year and are energized to make this year’s event bigger and better.”

This year’s is a one-day show from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 21. Live entertainment will be featured throughout the day from the MIS stage. Other activities are also planned including wine, food and beer product vendors, tastings and displays.

Award-winning wineries from across the state of Michigan will be on hand showcasing more than 100 varieties of wine including, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and others.

Oh, and beer – yes, beer! – will also be featured this year from Michigan breweries.

Making its return will be the interactive, fun and informative food pairing seminars from award-winning Chef Frank Marrara. “Chef Frank” hosted several wine and food pairings last year and each of them sold out. Pairings included cherry wine with sinful chocolate mousse, select harvest Riesling with pan seared salmon on a bed of sautéed leeks and sassy rose wine with sautéed chicken breast with prosciutto ham, roasted red pepper and grilled asparagus.

“Wine and food are meant to be enjoyed together, and if there’s one debate that can keep a dinner party rattling along, it’s the success of the wine served with the food. The seminars will be fun, but also elevate each participant’s awareness to the endless possibilities of dining with a delightful wine,” Marrara said.

In addition to wine and beer sampling and seminars, the festival will include an on-site retail store with select wines available for purchase.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Michigan Wine Foundation, an organization devoted to Michigan wine education.

Advance one-day tickets are $25. Each ticket includes $10 worth of tasting tokens. This event is for guests 21 and older.

Camping is available for $25 per night in the track’s MISCamping.com Grave Family Campground, Camping includes electric hookups.  Need an RV? A turn-key camping option is available for the wine and brew fest at www.MIScamping.com.
