Rain Washes Out Whelen NASCAR Late Model 100 At SBS

Two bouts of heavy rain washed out Saturday night’s Whelen NASCAR Late Model 100 racing program at South Boston Speedway.

Practice had been completed for all five of the track’s racing divisions and qualifying had been completed for all of the divisions except for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division when the first hard blast of rain came shortly after 6 p.m.

Track crews dried the track and qualifying was completed, but a second round of heavy rain forced speedway officials to cancel Saturday night’s scheduled event.

Tickets from Saturday night’s rained out event will be honored for the track’s scheduled July 11 event.

NASCAR racing action returns to South Boston Speedwayon Friday, July 3 with one of the track’s premier special events of the season, The Dr. and Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology Presents Thunder Road Harley Davidson NASCAR Whelen Late Model 200.

South Boston Speedway celebrates Independence Day with a three-race special event that will feature a 200-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division drivers and teams, a 100-lap Limited Sportsman Division race and a 50-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division competitors. To top off the night, South Boston Speedway will stage a colorful dazzling fireworks show at the conclusion of the night’s racing action.

Practice will go from noon until 1 p.m. and from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:30 p.m., qualifying time trials will begin at 4:45 p.m. and a Fan Appreciation event will be held trackside at 5:45 p.m. The first of the night’s three races gets the green flag at 7 p.m.

Advance adult general admission tickets are priced at $15 each and may be purchased at the speedway office until 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. Adult admission on race day is $20, with admission for youths ages 7-12 being $10. Kids ages six and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
