NASCAR Returns to Richmond International Raceway Twice in 2012

On the heels of what many race fans are calling one of the best races at Richmond International Raceway in years and the most entertaining race of the 2011 season, track officials announced today that America’s Premier Short Track will again host two NASCAR weekends in 2012. While the drivers left Richmond with tempers flaring, fans left talking about their next trip to Richmond; now, they can mark the dates on their calendars.

Next season Richmond International Raceway will feature NASCAR racing April 26-28 and September 7-8.  The spring weekend features the second annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Thursday night, April 26; the NASCAR Nationwide Series on Friday night, April 27 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on Saturday night, April 28. The Saturday, September 8 date again features the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event before the Chase cutoff, rendering the Wonderful Pistachios 400 as the “One Last Race to Make The Chase.” The weekend begins Friday, September 7, with the NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

“This past Saturday night’s Wonderful Pistachios 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race reminded our fans of what Richmond is all about,” said track president Dennis Bickmeier.  “After an exciting race where we saw racing that Richmond has become known for, we’re excited to announce our dates for 2012 and again showcase the beating and banging our fans love.”

Account holders who attended the “One Last Race to Make The Chase” NASCAR weekend in September can expect to receive renewal invitations for the spring weekend in early October.  For new fans, tickets for the April 26-28 NASCAR weekend will go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 13, 2012.  Seat deposits are currently being accepted.  For $20 per seat, fans can guarantee that they will have a seat for the April 28 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race without having to wait for the on-sale date.  Seat deposits can be redeemed on January 11, 2012 and will be applied to the seat price.
