Talladega Superspeedway¹s GEICO 500 & Winn-Dixie 300 to Be Seen Through Lenses of 100,000 Cameras

Even though Talladega Superspeedway’s incredible GEICO 500 & Winn-Dixie 300 marquee events (May 1-3) have come and gone in 2015, the unforgettable weekend that was at NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track will still be front and center Thursday evening in the cutting-edge documentary series “100,000 CAMERAS: TALLADEGA,” set to air at 8:30 p.m. CST on FOX Sports 1.

FOX Sports 1 and NASCAR Productions teamed up to capture not only the greatest racing on the planet with 100,000 CAMERAS: TALLADEGA, but also the fun, human interest side of NASCAR’s Party Capital during a picture perfect “Chamber of Commerce” weather weekend. The documentary weaves together fan and driver-generated video to tell the story of Talladega from every conceivable angle, regardless of location. The crowd-sourced documentary captures the ‘life in a day of NASCAR’ and how the sport connects people and communities at the track and around the world.

Fans everywhere were encouraged to tell their own Talladega story by using cameras and smart/mobile devices to capture the race, as well as the pre-race and post-race activities, whether from the grandstands, on a road trip to the track, at a tailgate, watching from home or from a neighborhood bar. Using the hashtags #100KCams and #NASCAR, fans simply uploaded videos to their social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, Vine, Facebook or Snapchat) during and after the race.

“Talladega Superspeedway race fans are passionate,” said track Chairman Grant Lynch. “It is so true that when we say ‘This is more than a race, This is Talladega,’ our fans know it first hand. We can’t wait to see ‘100,000 CAMERAS: TALLADEGA’ Thursday evening on FOX Sports 1.”

On the track, Dale Earnhardt Jr. put an exclamation point an unbelievable weekend by tackling the 2.66 mile mammoth venue in the GEICO 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race – his first Talladega triumph in 11 years. On Saturday, Joey Logano picked up his second ‘Dega win in the Winn-Dixie 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series while Blake Jones captured his first career ARCA Series Presented by Menards victory in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 on Friday.

Off the track, the infield was buzzing with excitement, too. Friday night’s “Big One on the Blvd.” featured a dozen NASCAR drivers in the Mardi Gras-style parade and fan competitions. The drivers included: Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Denny Hamlin, Danica Patrick, Kyle Larson, Greg Biffle, Michael Waltrip, Ryan Blaney and Brendan Gaughan. Saturday night’s traditional Infield Concert saw Chase Rice, Buddy Brown and Dee Jay Silver rock the house.

And, 100,000 CAMERAS: TALLADEGA captured it all – and then some. This marks the second popular installment of the 100,000 CAMERAS series.

NASCAR racing will return to Talladega Superspeedway, Oct. 23-25, with the running of the Alabama 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race – the sixth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup – and the fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
