TMS offering local, regional NASCAR fans unique seat for Daytona 500

Texas Motor Speedway has decided that their NASCAR fans in North Texas can spare the expense and time of traveling more than 1,100 miles to enjoy the infield revelry and spectacle of NASCAR’s season-opening Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Daytona International Speedway.

Texas Motor Speedway is opening its massive infield area for fans to bring their RVs, campers and tents – or just simply tailgate – to celebrate NASCAR’s opening weekend and have a front-row seat to enjoy the racing on the world’s largest, high-definition LED video board known as “Big Hoss TV.”

Did we fail to mention that it is absolutely free and open to the public?

Special invitations just went out and more than 250 NASCAR fans already has RSVP’d to set up camp with family and friends in the Texas Motor Speedway infield and re-create the Daytona 500 experience right here in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Fans interested in camping must RSVP by Sunday, Feb. 15, and can do so by visiting www.texasmotorspeedway.com. Tailgaters will be permitted to show up on race days and do not need to RSVP.

“This is the next best thing to being there,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “I could not think of a better way to celebrate the first NASCAR weekend of the season than by watching two great races with other fans on the world’s largest video board. It promises to be a fun weekend for everyone that will be out here.”

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Daytona 500 is the centerpiece of the watching party that will be an entire weekend of festivities. Texas Motor Speedway will open the infield at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 21, to allow fans to select a spot on a first-come, first-choice basis for overnight camping purposes as well as for any interested tailgaters. The fans will be treated to that day’s season-opening NASCAR XFINITY Series race (2:30 p.m. CT/FOX Sports 1) on “Big Hoss TV,” which also will show two movies that evening.

The infield will open at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, in anticipation of the Daytona 500 that begins at Noon CT on FOX. Fans also will get the opportunity to take a spin around Texas Motor Speedway’s 1.5-mile oval to get ready the day’s racing action. From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., fans can take part in free rides in the speedway’s official Chevrolet Camaro pace cars. From 1-3 p.m., the Team Texas Driving Experience will offer the opportunity to take a few laps in a two-seater NASCAR-style stock car for $75.

Texas Motor Speedway also will have an infield display open throughout the weekend that will feature show vehicles, appearances by “The Great American Sweethearts,” concessions from Levy Restaurants, the latest apparel from Speedway Motorsports Inc. Properties, and more.
