Dillon Motor Speedway Kicks Off The 2014 Season

Dillon Motor Speedway celebrated the starts of its 50thanniversary on Saturday, April 26 during the Raceway Automotive 200.

Bryan Blackwell took the checkered flag in the Super Truck feature of the 2014 season. Just before the field took the white flag, Sean Gardner spun coming out of turn four to set the field up for a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart, Kevin Parsons held the lead, but Bryan Blackwell was able to make the pass in turns one and two for the victory. Parsons finished second, followed by Borderich Baugues, Sean Gardner and Jimmy Herrington.

After winning the Charger race during Dillon Motor Speedway’s annual New Year’s weekend event, Michael Obrien followed it up with a victory in this weekend’s race. Chris Throckmorton finished second. Jason Beck finished third in his first career Charger division start. William Haynie who battled for the lead most of the feature had to settle for fourth after mechanical issues. Bean Watford made a comeback to finish fifth after spinning on lap 17 in turn four.

Bob Hapeman won the Carolina Vintage feature. Mack Tatum finished second, followed by Eugene Vaughn, James Turner and Phil Terry.

Ryan Hall started on the pole for the 50-lap Late Model feature, but it didn’t take long for Clay Jones to make the pass for the lead. However, Greg Peterson made the pass on Jones early on and was able to hold on for his first win of the season. Clay Jones finished second, and Ryan Hall finished third. Bobby Gower and Jason Clark finished fourth and fifth respectively after a hard fought battle to stay within the top-five. The 50-lap Late Model feature went caution free.

Ricky Locklair Jr. who led all 25 laps won the caution free Street Stock feature. Justin Altman finished a strong runner-up. John Schaak finished a career high of third. Art Chambers finished fourth, and Neal Anderson rounded out the top-five.

Unfortunately, not long after the checkered flag, John Schaak who finished a career high of third in the Street Stock division lost his life to a heart attack while in the infield at the speedway on Saturday night. A special 50/50 drawing will be held at Dillon Motor Speedway this weekend to help raise funds for Schaak’s family. He will be deep in the hearts of fans, drivers, team members and the track staff this upcoming weekend.
