USCS to Roar Into Southern National on April 26

The United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters is set to bring its 130+ mile per hour pavement pounding winged sprint cars to the 4/10 mile high banks at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday, April 26. It will be the first event for the series at SNMP since 2008 when the USCS made its third trip to the Lucama, North Carolina oval located near Kenly, North Carolina.

The event is Round #2 of the USCS “Road to Atlanta” six-race pavement mini-series and is a qualifier for the USCS Sprint Car Shootout at Atlanta Motor Speedway during their Labor Day weekend NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide events. The event is the one and only stop at Southern National for United Sprint Car series presented by K&N Filters during its’ fifty-one race 18th anniversary 2014 Outlaw Thunder Tour. Forty-four of the races are on dirt ovals and the special seven-race USCS “Road to Atlanta” mini-series is set to be contested on paved ovals in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Fans can expect to see an exotic mixture of winged Outlaw style sprint cars designed and utilized for dirt track racing in a battle with cars designed primarily for paved track racing. The USCS rules for pavement events make both types of cars capable of being equally competitive. Driver pre-entries are expected from some of the Nation’s top drivers from at least seven states as far away as Arkansas, Florida and Ohio.

The United Sprint Car Series is the only winged sprint car series in the world that contests it’s championship on both dirt and paved ovals. At 1,300 pounds and over 700 horsepower, the winged sprint cars are pound for pound the world’s fastest and most powerful short-track cars. Fans should expect to see the USCS sprint cars scorch the 4/10 mile distance around SNMP approximately one half to two seconds quicker than any other cars that race at SNMP.  The USCS winged sprint cars are expected to reach speeds of approximately 130 miles per hour around the 4/10 mile SNMP oval.

United Sprint Car Series founder and President, Pete Walton said,”We are totally excited about the opportunity for our drivers and race teams to return to Southern National Motorsports Park and showcase their talents in front of all the great fans at SNMP. Race fans who have  missed the United Sprint Car Series’ previous events at Southern National and those who have never seen this type of racing are in store for an exciting evening on Saturday, April 26″ concluded Walton.

The night’s lineup will also see a full schedule of racing from SNMP’s local divisions, featuring twin-35 lap races from the SNMP Limited Late Models.  Chargers, Street Stocks, UCARs, Legends and Bandoleros will all be in action, as well.  Tickets for this special event are $15 for adults (16+), $12 for kids 13-15, $6 for kids 6-12, while children 5 and under are free.  Active military and senior citizens are just $12 with valid ID.
