Veteran Sports Publicist Elkin Joins TMS Media Relations Staff

Texas Motor Speedway announced today that Dallas/Fort Worth veteran sports public relations executive Gregg Elkin has joined the speedway’s public relations staff as its media relations manager.

Elkin has been handling public relations in the sports industry for 26 years, including half of those in the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Elkin previously has served as Director of Basketball Communications for the Dallas Mavericks, Senior Director of Communications for the Texas Rangers, and most recently as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations for the University of Texas at Arlington.

Before moving to the DFW Metroplex, Elkin’s career was in the college sports information field, including tenures at two that possessed high-profile men’s basketball teams. He was the assistant sports information director at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) when the Runnin’ Rebels won the 1990 national championship and then spent the next eight years (1991-99) as sports information director-basketball at Indiana University for Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight and his perennial powerhouse teams.

“Gregg brings a wealth of public relations experience and talent to our team in addition to his extensive knowledge of our local media market,” Texas Motor Speedway Vice President of Media Relations Mike Zizzo said. “Having followed both NASCAR and INDYCAR for years, he will make a smooth transition into our sport and be a key asset for Texas Motor Speedway.”

Elkin will report directly to Zizzo and joins senior coordinator Louis Mora and coordinator Rodney Scearce on the Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations staff. His primary responsibilities will focus on but not be limited to serving the local, regional and national broadcast outlets throughout the year.

“I am truly excited about this opportunity and I am looking forward to being a part of the TMS PR team,” Elkin said. “Mike, Louis and Rodney have a great reputation in the business and I am thankful to be a part of this team. I want to thank Mike and the rest of the Texas Motor Speedway staff for this great opportunity.”

Elkin, a 1988 graduate of Arizona State University, resides in Carrollton, Texas, with his wife Jessica and his children, twins Jaret and Anna and Tristan.
