Darlington Raceway to participate in Florance County benefit ride

Motorcycle enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take laps around Darlington Raceway as the starting point for the eighth annual Florence County Benefit Ride, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The event, sponsored by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, will register participants beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Darlington Raceway infield with paced laps around the track Too Tough To Tame taking place at 9 a.m. All participants must wear helmets during the laps around Darlington Raceway.

The benefit ride will then depart Darlington Raceway at noon with a guided ride to the Florence Veterans’ Park and then to Creek Ratz restaurant in Florence with a police escort.

The cost is $20 per bike and $10 per rider to participate, with proceeds benefiting Camp Pee Dee Pride, and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office Youth and Wounded Warrior Hunts. Participants that pre-register for the event before the August 28, 2013, deadline will be entered into a special drawing, which will take place on the day of the event.

“We’ve always had a great relationship with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and are happy to be the starting point for their benefit ride. The funds they raise go to organizations and events that benefit our youth in the Pee Dee, which is important for our local communities,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said.
