Atlanta Motor Speedway and Speedway Children’s Charities Donate Meats to Henry County Food Pantry

The Atlanta Motor Speedway chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities has teamed up with Smithfield Foods to donate 320,000 hot dogs. The donation was hosted by Helping In His Name Food Pantry of Henry County.

Smithfield’s donation of Gwaltney-brand hot dogs, totaling over 40,000 pounds of protein, will be distributed to needy families and other food pantries in the Henry County area through Helping In His Name Ministries, located in Stockbridge.

If lined end-to-end, all 320,000 of those hot dogs would make just over 19 laps around the Atlanta Motor Speedway’s 1.54-mile racing surface.

“The Atlanta chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities is not just Atlanta Motor Speedway’s charity, but it is a catalyst for Henry County and our region to support many need-based organizations in our own back yard,” said Atlanta chapter director Ginger Moats. “We are simply taking advantage of the opportunities that the racing industry affords us, and using those relationships to create events that allow those in our community to partner with us to do good deeds for our local citizens.”

This donation was part of Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes tour, the company’s coast-to-coast effort to help families and individuals become more food secure. By way of this program, Smithfield has partnered with charities like SCC to deliver more than 25.4 million servings of protein to food-assistance groups across the country.

“This generous donation is yet another example of how sponsoring companies involved in NASCAR provide much needed assistance to organizations within the racetrack communities across the country,” said Ed Clark, Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager. “Atlanta Motor Speedway is proud to work with Smithfield Foods to benefit those in need here in our home community.”

In particular, Smithfield has partnered with Speedway Motorsports to donate one truck-load of hot dogs to all eight markets where Speedway Motorsports has a NASCAR track.
