Travis Pastrana: Charlotte Motor Speedway A Perfect Fit For X Games

One of the most decorated athletes in the history of X Games was at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday in support of the legendary facility’s bid to land ESPN’s extreme action sports contest beginning in 2014.

Travis Pastrana, who now drives in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Roush Fenway Racing, even took members of the X Games site survey team for a few laps around the 1.5-mile superspeedway and shared his thoughts about what makes Charlotte such an attractive option for X Games competition.

“Charlotte is the motor racing capital of the world,” the 17-time X Games medalist said. “Coming to Charlotte would take action sports to a whole new level. These facilities are amazing. They’ve got everything in place. They’ve got places where fans can see everything. They’ve got the huge TV screen. It’s just so much fun. I’d love to see some off-road short-track racing and some drag racing (added to the X Games competitions), just to add a little Charlotte flavor. I think this is just a perfect fit.”

Pastrana’s visit came on the first of two days where the ESPN X Games site survey committee will visit all three venues at Charlotte Motor Speedway and discuss the possibility of awarding a three-year contract to bring the summer games to the iconic speedway beginning in 2014. Other cities in consideration are Austin, Texas; Chicago and Detroit. Officials plan to announce which city will host the games in the next few weeks after completing site visits at each of the four finalist cities.
