Celebrate NASCAR Day with MIS (and a clean car!) on May 20

Michigan International Speedway and its non-profit arm MIS Cares are offering a unique and fun way to celebrate NASCAR Day on Friday, May 20.

MIS Cares has partnered with the NASCAR Foundation for the NASCAR Unites Car Wash for Kids at the Irish Hills racetrack from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The NASCAR Unites Car Wash for Kids will take place at various racetracks throughout the country that day.

For a $20 donation, each fan will receive a car wash in the MIS infield, a NASCAR Unites wristband and one lap around the historic two-mile MIS oval.

“MIS Cares and the NASCAR Foundation are trying something different this year to celebrate NASCAR Day by offering this unique car wash experience for our fans,” MIS Director of Government and Community Affairs Alisha Cottrell said. “We enjoy the opportunity to host our fans here at the track on May 20 and give them a great experience for a good cause.”

Additionally, fans are welcomed to come out and have their child car seats inspected as part of the Michigan State Police safe car seat initiative. Seats that don’t pass inspection will be replaced at no charge while supplies last.

Proceeds from the car wash will go toward the purchase of car seats for upcoming inspections. This is the first car seat inspection in Lenawee County.

“Car seat safety is extremely important and sometimes goes unnoticed so we felt it was important to work with the Michigan State Police Jonesville Post to offer this program to our guests,” Cottrell said. “As a parent of two children, I personally take great pride in this program and hope our guests that day take the opportunity to get their car seats inspected by the Michigan State Police to ensure the safety of their children when riding in a vehicle. You can never be too careful.”

All fans who participate should enter the track via the tunnel entrance off Brooklyn Highway. Signs will direct guests to the car wash location.

Once their car is washed, guests may take a lap around Michigan International Speedway.

The NASCAR Foundation recently announced “NASCAR Unites,” an industry initiative led by The Foundation that creates an opportunity for NASCAR fans, drivers, teams, tracks, sponsors, employees and more to unite to make a difference in the lives of children across the nation. NASCAR Unites engages the sport in a collaborative effort to support children’s causes through volunteering, fundraising, sharing inspirational stories and unifying to make a difference.

In 2011, NASCAR Unites will offer fans and the NASCAR industry “Two Million Ways to Unite for Kids” through volunteerism and fundraising. Through NASCAR Unites, The NASCAR Foundation will grant $1 million and generate one million volunteer hours in local communities to help children live happier, healthier lives.
