Josh Berry will kick off his second season with the JR Motorsports late model program this Saturday when he races the No. 72 R&B Chevrolet at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va.
The 20-year-old native of Hendersonville, Tenn., is slated to compete in 20 late model races for JR Motorsports this year at Motor Mile Speedway. Last year, Berry participated in 10 events with the team, earning four top-10 finishes.
L.W. Miller, a long-time competitor in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, will serve as crew chief and team manager for the No. 72 R&B team this season. Miller will partner with program director Willie Jackson in leading the program in 2011.
“I’m really excited to be working with JR Motorsports again this year, especially with my new crew chief, L.W. Miller,” said Berry. “JR Motorsports has a great tradition of success with its late model program, and we want to continue to build on that success this year. Willie Jackson has basically built this program to what it is, and having his expertise and experience is a great thing to have. With L.W. joining us this year, I feel I’m in the best possible situation I could’ve ever hoped for.”
Miller’s season in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series kicked off March 13 at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C. He drove to a fourth-place finish in his No. 36 Speedco/Lucas Oil Chevrolet for Baker Motorsports. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Series returns to action Saturday night at Hickory (N.C.) Speedway. This is one of two dates in 2011 in which the driving schedules of Berry and Miller conflict. Miller will spend all day Friday helping Berry and the late model team prepare for the weekend before heading to Hickory on Saturday.
“Josh has improved immensely in his short time at JR Motorsports,” Miller added. “Anytime you have the opportunity to put someone with Josh’s talents in this type of equipment, you expect to go out, run competitively, and win races. Those are our goals with this year.
“I wish I was going to be there Saturday night, but we’ll be racing our No. 36 Speedco/Lucas Oil car at Hickory. We’re really excited about outlook for this year. We should’ve won the season-opener at Caraway, but we were caught up in an accident while leading. It was an unfortunate way to start the season, but we’re looking forward to rebounding this weekend. Nothing would be better than to see JR Motorsports win at Motor Mile and Baker Motorsports win at Hickory tomorrow night.”
Prior to joining forces with JR Motorsports, Berry won track championships and numerous feature wins in Legends cars at Fairgrounds Speedway and Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tenn., as well as Huntsville (Ala.) Speedway. Berry is also a highly-regarded online racer, who is currently ranked fourth in the NASCAR iRacing.com World Championship Series.
