Mason Ludwig Heads To Hickory For Isaac Memorial

Mason Ludwig is gearing up for one of the biggest events in the Southeast this weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Ludwig, driving for Leicht Motorsports Driver Development, will compete in the 50-lap limited late model portion of Saturday’s Bobby Isaac Memorial.

Named in honor of 1970 NASCAR Cup Series champion and Hickory native Bobby Isaac, the event annually brings some of the best competitors from across the region to the legendary .363-mile asphalt oval.

“The Bobby Isaac Memorial is the biggest race of the year at Hickory and I’m excited to represent Eugene and Rebecca Leicht this weekend as we chase a trophy,” said Ludwig. “We’ve had a lot of success at Hickory in the last year, so I think we’ve got a good shot at winning this race.”

Ludwig, the winner of the 2018 Search for a Champion $50,000 “On The Track” Grand Prize, returned to Leicht Motorsports Driver Development in July and promptly made his way to victory lane.

On July 20 Ludwig bested Hickory limited late model championship leader Cody DeMarmels to earn his first victory of the season. Ludwig, who also earned his first limited late model victory last season at Hickory, is hoping to add the Bobby Isaac Memorial to his resume this weekend.

“Winning that race in July at Hickory was a big confidence booster after not being in a car for several months,” Ludwig said. “Not only did we win, we beat the guy who is leading the track points. I think that makes us one of the top contenders to win the Bobby Isaac Memorial. Now all we have to do is go out and win it.”

Leicht Motorsports Driver Development co-owner Eugene Leicht, whose team won the limited late model portion of the Bobby Isaac Memorial last year, is hoping to collect his second-straight Bobby Isaac Memorial trophy.

“Winning this race last year was a big deal,” Leicht said. “With Mason we’ve got a really good shot to win the race for the second-straight season. He’s proven he can win at Hickory against some of the stiffest competition, so I absolutely believe he can win this weekend. I’m excited to see what he can do.”
