Universal Technical Institute’s (UTI) Mooresville campus, NASCAR Technical Institute (NASCAR Tech), is looking to help driver Burt Myers, a nine-time Bowman Gray Stadium Modified Champion, add another trophy to his impressive collection. This is not the first time NASCAR Tech’s students have built engines for Myers, and they’ve helped him take competition to a new level at “The Madhouse,” one of NASCAR’s most storied tracks.
This Saturday, Myers will drive the No. 1 in the Carolina Farm Credit 150, the final modified series race of the season at Bowman Gray Stadium. Myers’ victories are just part of an incredibly successful season for the school’s student-built engine program, which also builds Spec Engines for several race teams competing in the K&N Pro Series East, and race engines for the DIRTcar Modified Series.
Myers has been winning Bowman Gray Stadium modified championships since partnering with NASCAR Tech.
“The technology they have at NASCAR Technical Institute really sets me apart from my competitors, and their student-built engines have the track record to prove what an incredible program they have,” said Myers. “When I get behind the steering wheel, I don’t even have to think about my engine. I know NASCAR Tech provides me with the power and performance I need.”
In the 2019 season, NASCAR Tech students have earned 16 wins, 4 poles, and 38 top 10 finishes across all series in which the school’s engines compete. Hattori Racing Enterprises driver Max McLaughlin claimed his first career win at Watkins Glen International on August 2 with a student-built engine.

NASCAR Tech is the exclusive educational provider for NASCAR and the only campus in the country to offer NASCAR-endorsed training. NASCAR Tech’s Mooresville, N.C. campus offers the standard Universal Technical Institute core automotive training program, with an optional 15-week elective to train students preparing for a career in motorsports. The 15-week elective trains students in everything from engines, fabrication, and welding, to aerodynamics and pit crew essentials.
