NWES expands Goodwood FOS presence

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will be featured at the world famous Goodwood Festival of Speed for the third year in a row with an expanded lineup. Four cars will race up the hill in the traditional Shootout Hillclimb, driven by ELITE 2 points leader Giorgio Maggi, up-and-coming NASCAR star Todd Gilliland, former Cup Series driver David Gilliland and NWES President Jerome Galpin.

The presence of the European NASCAR series at one of the most important motorsports meeting in the world – the Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking place on July 4-7 and attracting tens of thousands of passionate fans every year – keeps growing edition after edition and will reach a new high this weekend. Four Euro NASCAR cars will be displayed together with a large NASCAR delegation and will take part in the iconic Shootout Hillclimb competition reaching its culmination on Sunday.

Teams Championship points leader Hendriks Motorsport earned the precious entry for its #50 Ford Mustang and will have ELITE 2 division leader Giorgio Maggi, fresh of his second career win in the NASCAR GP of the Czech Republic, behind the wheel.

“We showed great potential, we are leading the championship and it’s simply incredible to be able to go to Goodwood,” said Maggi. “We have been wanting to go there for many years and I’m really looking forward to be there in person, meet some of the greatest motorsport legends and drive my Euro NASCAR Mustang up the Goodwood Hill!”

With official support from Mars, Incorporated, NASCAR Gander Outdoors Series rising star Todd Gilliland and his father David, who boasts 333 starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, will drive a pair of Euro NASCAR Toyota Camry sporting special Mars liveries dedicated to M&M’s and Maltesers.

“Just the excitement around this event is really special to me. I’ve never been to Europe at all. I’ve watched some Euro Series highlights and I’m really excited to get behind the wheel of one of those Camrys. It’s going to be cool just taking it all in and meeting a lot of new people and fans over there,” said Todd Gilliland.

NWES President – CEO Jerome Galpin will return to the Hillclimb Shootout for the third time piloting the official car of the series, the General Tire Chevrolet Camaro.

“We are very happy to offer every year to our Teams Championship leader an invitation to enter this world famous event! It is truly the aim of NWES to offer great opportunities to our teams and drivers,” said Jerome Galpin. “We are also very proud to welcome David and Todd with the support of Mars Incorporated and NASCAR! It will be incredible to see our cars in those legendary paint schemes!”

Several stars will highlight the 16-car NASCAR delegation at Goodwood: NASCAR Xfinity Series race winner Ed Berrier, former Cup Series champion crew chief Andy Petree and European endurance icon Emanuele Pirro will all take part in the Shootout, while Hall Of Famers Richard Petty and Bobby Labonte will drive NASCAR cars in demo runs.

After taking part in practice runs on Thursday and Friday, the Euro NASCAR drivers will take on qualifying for the Hillclimb Shootout on Saturday at 17:30 CEST, while the iconic race up the Goodwood Hill will begin on Sunday, July 7h at 17:00 CEST. All the activities will be streamed live on Goodwood.com.
