Loris Hezemans in action during Speedweeks 2019 on New Smyrna

Loris Hezemans will make his NASCAR oval debut in America next month. During the Speedweeks, the traditional opening week of a new season in NASCAR, Hezemans will participate in the Pro Late Model class at the World Series of Asphalt 2019 on New Smyrna.

“I’m very happy with this opportunity”, tells Loris Hezemans. “In 2018 we made the decision to compete in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series alongside the Blancpain GT Series to get more seat time in a car. Surprisingly, this change of scene turned out to be so good and it eventually resulted in fourth place in the Elite 1 championship and in winning the Junior Trophy as best rookie.”

“The past season made us decide to shift the focus towards NASCAR for 2019”, Hezemans continues. “The ultimate goal is to race in America in trucks – or Xfinity Series. However, most races there, in contrast to Europe, are held on ovals. One of the most important reasons why we decided to go racing during the Speedweeks on New Smyrna was to gain more experience on ovals.”

And for this Loris will get plenty of opportunities in February. During the Speedweeks, on no less than six nights he will get behind the wheel in the Pro Late Model of ATF & Gunslinger, the team owned by former Truck Series champion Mike Skinner. New Smyrna is not totally unknown to Loris. In November he took part in the NASCAR Drive 4 Diversity program on this track.

“Last October, in preparation for this program, I did testing in a car of ATF & Gunslinger on New Smyrna for a day”, Hezemans continues. “With the help of Jamie Skinner I was able to make real good progress throughout the test and finish with a good feeling to start Speedweeks on the 8th of February. It’s a great opportunity to race for such an iconic family within Nascar such as the Skinner family. I am really looking forward to working with them and trying to improve and learn each race”.

The races will be held from February 8 till February 14 2019 on the race track in New Smyrna, FL. “I can’t wait and I’m really looking forward to it”, Hezemans concludes.
