NASCAR Hall of Fame Statement on the Passing of Phil Kurze

The following is a statement from NASCAR Hall of Fame Executive Director Winston Kelley on the passing of Phil Kurze:

“On behalf of everyone at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, we offer our most sincere condolences to the family of Phil Kurze and everyone at Whelen Engineering. Phil’s passion for motorsports, especially NASCAR grassroots racing, was unparalleled in my experience. Among his many contributions to NASCAR was him being the catalyst of the Whelen Hall of Champions exhibit here in the Hall of Fame. It was Phil’s vision to honor all of NASCAR’s national, regional and international champions, including our sport’s current and past series. Through his vision and with the support of Whelen Engineering, we partnered to develop this iconic and historic exhibit, which has honored more than 600 champions from NASCAR’s first 70 years. The Whelen Hall of Champions also recognizes “Whelen Everyday Champions,” which annually honors first responders from across the country who have performed heroic feats. We are forever grateful for Phil’s contributions to NASCAR and the Hall of Fame. He will be dearly missed and his legacy will be cherished and remembered forever.”
