Mason Mitchell Set for Hometown Return to the Iowa Speedway

2014 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards champion Mason Mitchell will return to the driver’s seat in next Saturdays Fans with Benefits 150 at the Iowa Speedway. This marks Mitchell’s first start of the 2017 season.

Mitchell who celebrated his 23rd birthday earlier in the week will be behind the wheel of the No. 88 Karl Chevrolet/Champion Power Equipment Chevy SS for his MMM team. Karl Chevrolet and Mitchell are no stranger to success. The two have had a partnership since the 2015 season where they won two races (Iowa & Kansas).

“This all wouldn’t be possible without the great support from Karl Chevrolet,” Mitchell stated. “They deserve to be back in victory lane and we are going to do our best at that.”

“The 2015 race was quite brutal with the heat. We pitted every chance we had to make our car better. Our pit-crew put us in position late and we pounced. I have more pressure now than I did the first time.  It would mean a lot to be the first repeat winner in ARCA competition at Iowa. I’m highly involved on a day to day basis with our teams and drivers. I know what we are doing to make these cars better. I’ve been fortunate enough to test some this year. I’m looking forward to it “

MMM will field three entries for the third time in 2017 with Kyle Weatherman in the No. 78, Michael Self in the No. 28 and Mason Mitchell in the No. 88.

“I feel this is the best shot we’ve had with three cars. All three cars are fantastic and all three drivers are all capable of winning. It would mean the world to me to finish 1-2-3 in front of the hometown crowd.”

In 2015, Mitchell captured an emotional win on a last lap pass in front of a hometown crowd at the Iowa Speedway. Mitchell grew up 30 minutes from the Iowa Speedway in West Des Moines, Iowa.

This will mark Mitchell’s fifth start at the 7/8-mile “Fastest Short Track on The Planet.”
