A month ago, Quin Houff was leading the ARCA race at Daytona International Speedway not knowing what the rest of the season held for him, much less the rest of his entire racing career. Houff entered that event in a one-race deal with Mason Mitchell Motorsports and used the opportunity to earn himself a ride with Anthony Campi Racing in the CARS Super Late Model Tour powered by VP Fuels in his home state of Virginia at Dominion Raceway on Saturday, March 25.
For the first time in his career, Houff will be teaming with super late model powerhouse team Anthony Campi Racing in an attempt to visit victory lane for the third (and possibly fourth) time in Houff’s CARS Tour career and the first time in his home state of Virginia. ACR primarily competes in and around Florida, focusing heavily on major deep south races. They will be towing nearly 15 hours north to field a car for Houff in this race.
“I’m excited to get back into a super with the CARS Tour to have some fun,” Houff said about the next event on his racing calendar. “Dominion is a new track, and is in my home state, so I’m looking forward to having a very strong showing with Anthony Campi Racing. They have some very nice equipment and are making a trek all the way from Florida to put me in a car. We’re both going into this deal for one reason – to win! All the focus is on that for now and if we succeed, then we’ll see what’s in store afterwards.”
Last season, Houff opened his super late model racing season with a win at Southern National Motorsports Park, a track just south of Dominion. Campi, too, visited victory lane multiple times last season in competition with various super late model sanctions across the country.
Should Houff have the highest average finish between both duel races next weekend, he would lock himself into the U.S. Short Track Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway and have the opportunity to race at one of the most notable motorsports facilities in the world. Despite that allure, for now, he’s happy to be racing in the nation’s most notable super late model series close to home where his sponsors, family and friends can see him.
“I’m fortunate that Matt Horowitz, CPA, jumped on board to help me get back into a super late model this year,” Houff said. “He wanted to give my friends and family a chance to see me race close to home in a big event like this one. Since family and friends are so important to me, I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for helping to make this happen. Hopefully, the numbers all fall into place on-track to where we can reward them with a win.”
The CARS Tour event at Dominion will be the first start for ACR under that sanction, but not against some of its competitors. Twice in 2016, Campi found victory lane with his driver in the Southern Super Series, another sanction to where many racers bounce back and forth from the CARS Tour.
