Four companion series to join Verizon IndyCar Series at Watkins Glen International

The INDYCAR Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International just got even more action-packed.

Four other INDYCAR-sanctioned series are scheduled to join the stars of the headlining Verizon IndyCar Series at the historic circuit this Labor Day weekend, filling out an exciting slate of racing during the August 31-September 3 event. The three series that make up the Mazda Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires will celebrate their season finales at The Glen.

The Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires, Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires, and Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda will all conclude at The Glen, with the possibility of championship battles coming down to the very last laps of 2017.

The Battery Tender Global MX-5 Cup presented by Goodrich Tires, a signature spec series featuring the Mazda MX-5, or fourth generation Miata, will also contest Rounds 9 and 10 of its 12-round schedule during the INDYCAR weekend.

“The INDYCAR Grand Prix at The Glen race weekend is going to benefit greatly in terms of on-track excitement from the addition of these wonderful series,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “INDYCAR has a tremendous ladder system that is proven in developing young drivers into stars, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to WGI this season.”

In 2016, Zach Veach earned his second Indy Lights win of the season on Saturday of the INDYCAR Grand Prix at The Glen weekend.

Sanctioned by INDYCAR, the Mazda Road to Indy provides drivers, teams, and sponsors an opportunity to gain valuable experience on and off the track while following a clear-cut path of progression through development series. Since its launch in 2010, this ladder system has attracted competitors from around the globe, showcasing their talents at premier venues on a mix of road courses, temporary street circuits, and ovals.

The INDYCAR Grand Prix at The Glen returns to Watkins Glen International this Labor Day weekend, August 31-September 3 featuring thrilling on-track action from five different series with championship battles coming down to the wire.
