Grand finale to SEAT Leon Eurocup online at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

This past weekend, the winners of the SEAT Leon Eurocup Online received their respective trophies at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya -the track at which the last round of the SEAT Leon Eurocup was held. At an unbeatable venue and with a party atmosphere for the Spanish brand, SEAT Sport rounded off the first edition of its online competition, organised in conjunction with Cloud Sport, in which 200 of the world’s best simracing drivers participated.

Among the 1,000 people who tried out the simulators, located in the SEAT Sport tent, were Jordi Gene – SEAT Sport test driver and Martorell brand ambassador -, Alex Criville – former 500cc and 125cc World Champion-, Laia Sanz – five times Trial World Champion, five-time Enduro World Champion and SEAT ambassador -, and Mikel Azcona – recently proclaimed runner-up of the 2016 SEAT Leon Eurocup.

All of them praised the realism of the Cloud Sport simulators. Laia Sanz said that “the braking and lines resemble actually driving at the circuit,” and Mikel Azcona highlighted that “the braking points and gear changes in the Cloud Sport simulators are completely real.”

During the event in Barcelona, Director of SEAT Sport, Jaime Puig, presented Kristian Kwietniewski, winner of the first edition of the SEAT Leon Eurocup online, with his prize. In addition to the trophy, the 23 year old Madrid-based driver will race the 500km of Alcañiz with Jordi Gene as teammate, on November 26th.

For Kwietniewski, “going to MotorLand and competing with a driver like Jordi Gene is a feeling that cannot be explained. To be able to compete for the first time in a real competition is a dream come true, since all simracing drivers want to get to experience it for real.”

Mikel Azcona handed over the trophies to the winners of each of the races in the SEAT Leon Eurocup online. Kristian Kwietniewski received the prize for first place in the event at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Miguel Ballester for Nürburgring and Red Bull Ring.

More than 2,500 virtual laps undertaken

The Cloud Sport simulator area in the SEAT Sport tent was also a meeting point for SEAT employees. They were able to enjoy an online race with Jordi Gene, who highlighted the high level of his rivals. Throughout the weekend more than 2,500 virtual laps were undertaken at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The SEAT Leon Eurocup online is the first collaboration between SEAT Sport and Cloud Sport, with 2016 seeing the first edition of the successful event. Laura Brullas, head of sales and social networks at SEAT Sport, said that “overall it has been very positive. The commitment made by SEAT Sport has been full, since we have seen a great level of professionalism in both Cloud Sport and the Real Federacion Española de Automovilismo.

SEAT Sport and Cloud Sport are already working on the second edition of the SEAT Leon Eurocup Online, which will have a more complete calendar and will start in March 2017.
