Busted Radiator Ends Gus Deans Opportunity for Top-Five Finish at Kentucky Speedway

Gus Dean driver of the GREE/Bosch/CAB Installers No. 98 Chevrolet for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) appeared to be in position to earn another solid top-five finish until debris from a car hit the No. 98 machine. Dean and the No. 98 team spent 24 laps in the garage repairing damage and changing the radiator. Dean crossed the stripe in the 21st position.

“It was a very unfortunate set of circumstances,” a dejected Dean said after the Crosley 150. “Our team worked so hard from the test and made great changes during the day of the race. We had a solid top-five car and were trying to just be around at the end of 100 laps. Unfortunately, there was a big wreck and a piece of debris came off another car and went through our radiator.”

“It really is a shame for everyone involved because they all work so hard to make these opportunities happen. I can’t thank GREE, Bosch, CAB Installers and everyone from the MMM team for their hard work and dedication throughout the 2016 season.”

The race marked Deans first start on a 1.5-mile track. From practice to qualifying the team picked up six tenths as Dean put the No. 98 ninth on the grid for the 19th race of the season.

When the green flag waved Dean quickly asserted himself inside the top-ten finding a nice groove in the eighth position. The No. 98 teams fate changed on lap 23 when debris from Sarah Cornett Chings car hit the front end of the No. 98 and busted the radiator sending the No. 98 to the garage for repairs.

Dean and the No. 98 team never gave up and returned to the track to gain valuable experience. Dean brought the No. 98 across the finish line in 21st.

All ARCA teams will have two weeks off to prepare for the 2016 finale at the Kansas Speedway on October 15th.

MMM is the defending winner of the event winning with driver/owner Mason Mitchell. The 2015 event also marked the first time that MMM fielded three entries in an ARCA event.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will conclude its 64th year of competition in the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 14, live on FS1.
