Holmes Takes PLM Championship at Five Flags; Excited for Crosley 150

Bret Holmes and the BHR team made the short drive to Pensacola over the weekend to collect a Pro Late Model championship at the legendary Five Flags Speedway during the Allen Turner Tuneup 100.

After rain had postponed the races original start time for Saturday night, Holmes and the remainder of the field began the race late Sunday afternoon as the skies finally began to clear on the Gulf Coast.

Throughout the contest, the H2 seemed to become loose and increasingly hard to manage, but as the laps wound down on the season, Holmes still held on to a top-10 finish which allowed him to wrap up the points race by over 60 points.

“I really enjoyed racing here this year,” said Holmes. “We had a great car each race. We never finished off the podium except for today. I wish we would’ve done a lot better today so that I could enjoy this to its full extent, but at the same time, I’m ecstatic we won the championship here.”

After winning the feature on April 15th, Holmes managed to put together a string of podium finishes that all but guaranteed him the title before even taking the green flag on Sunday.

“It was a nice feeling going into the race with such a padded lead in the points,” he continued. “We had pretty much locked it up over a month ago, but just to sit here and look at it from an outside perspective, we had a stellar Pro Late Model season here.”

Between a hectic class schedule at Auburn and a multi-week stretch running in the ARCA Racing Series, Holmes was glad to stop and take in the moment as he now has won track championships at Montgomery and Pensacola in consecutive years.

Crosley 150 (ARCA):

Next, it is off to Kentucky Speedway Friday to run in the ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menards, Crosley 150. This will mark the second to last race of Holmes’ limited ARCA schedule this season.

He has not finished outside the top-10 in any of his previous five ARCA races this season, with his best career finish of third coming last week in Salem, Indiana.

“We are excited to get to Kentucky,” said Holmes. “We have a test on Tuesday, and the race is on Friday, so we are going to have a busy week. We are bringing a new car out for this race so hopefully we can break through and get that first ARCA win.”
