Briscoe Wins Scott 150

Chase Briscoe piloted the No. 77 Big Tine Ford to his fifth win of the ARCA season in the Scott 150 at Chicagoland Speedway. Despite overshooting his pit box during one of his  stops, Briscoe dominated the 100-lap race on the 1.5-mile oval.

The final call on pit road played a big part in Briscoe’s fifth trip to Victory Lane. “It was huge to get those (final) General Tires,” Briscoe told FS1. “Obviously they’re bringing a great tire but at the same time, we had a lot of laps on them (the field).”

Briscoe and his crew chief Chad Bryant contemplated the final money stop after seeing fellow competitor Austin Cindric’s tire strategy. “Once Cindric came out of there after taking four tires, he just left us,” Briscoe explained. “So we knew that was the key, to come take tires. I’m so proud of these guys (his team). They’ve been working their tails off this past week and we got a long couple weeks ahead.”

Compared to where he was a year ago, Briscoe has made drastic improvement and is on pace to win the ARCA Series championship. “I’m so blessed,” he said. “Unbelievable from where I was last year to where I am now. We’ve been good all year long. Obviously Chad (crew chief) and everybody at Cunningham Motorsports brings great race cars. It makes my job a lot easier.  We’ve had a lot of bad luck this season where we’ve given away wins and tonight we executed.”

John Wes Townley came home second in the No. 05 JIVE Communications-Zaxby’s Chevrolet. He adds a fifth top-five finish to his season resume. “Unfortunately, we just didn’t have the car for the No. 77,” Townley said, also in a FS1 post-race interview. “He’s just been real dominant at the mile-and-a-halves. We’ve just got to figure something out on our part. I did a great job, it just wasn’t our night.”

Christopher Bell finished third in tonight’s race to earn his third top-five ARCA finish. “To come home third after how the whole night played out, it was a really good race for us.” The No. 15 JBL Toyota driver told FS1. “I’m just really thankful to be here and glad General Tire supports ARCA racing. Third place isn’t where we want to be but it’s a good day for us.”

Two more races remain on the ARCA circuit. Next up is the Crosley 150 at Kentucky Speedway. The race is scheduled September 23 at 8:00 PM EST on FS2.
