2009 was the last time Illinois native Brent Sherman raced in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. That will change Thursday evening when he hops behind the wheel of the No. 98 A. Marek Fine Jewelry Chevrolet for Mason Mitchell Motorsports.
“I’m really excited, not nervous about the race.,” Sherman stated. “I’m nervous about doing well for myself. I don’t know what well is until I finish that first practice…it’s been so long.”
“I’ve got so much family and friends coming to see me. I’m not making it easy on myself. Half of them have been to races before, but half have never seen a race before. I want to do well. I’m still competitive. I know I can win in ARCA…I’ve won before, but I have no idea what to expect. Who knows. I may not find the groove till the end of the race. Keep the car clean and see where we are at the end.
“There are a lot of unknowns. It’s been so long, but, more than anything, I’m just really excited. I’m especially excited for my kids Cooper and Madison to see me race. They have no memory of me racing and I know they’re really looking forward to it. So am I.”
Sherman is a former ARCA winner, capturing the checkered flag in 2006 at the Michigan International Speedway. He finished runner-up to Frank Kimmel in championship standings in 2004. In all, Sherman has 74 career starts in ARCA dating back to 2001.
Sherman has three starts at the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway, earning two top-five finishes in three starts.
Three years ago MMM earned their first ARCA win as a team in the 2014 edition of the Scott 150 with driver/owner Mason Mitchell behind the wheel.
“Our first win as a team is something I will always remember,” driver/owner Mason Mitchell stated. “We always seem to race very well at Chicago. The team has prepared a good piece for Brent and he always races well here. There’s been a lot of changes in these cars since his last ARCA start. We will get him comfortable in practice and then unleash him during the race.”
Chassis Information: Sherman will pilot chassis No. 588 out of the MMM stable. This is the first time the car has been on-track since it was involved in a wreck at Lucas Oil Raceway in July. The chassis has 20 starts, earning one win (Winchester 2015), seven top-fives and 12 top-ten finishes.
The Scott 150 caps off a three race stretch in 11 days for the ARCA Racing Series. The teams raced at DuQuoin on September 4th, then at Salem on September 10th and now the Chicagoland Speedway on September 15th.
The SCOTT® 150 is live on FS1 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The race will follow a busy day of on-track activities beginning with ARCA practice from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. local Central time. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell is scheduled at 4:10 p.m. ARCAracing.com will provide live timing and scoring and live chat for all on-track activities.
