Lucas Oil Raceway has proven to be one of the toughest and most competitive short tracks on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. Friday evening, proved to be no different. Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) teammates Gus Dean and Brady Boswell had their work cut out for them in the 200 lap event. Dean led the MMM charge earning his third top-ten in four starts in 2016 while teammate Brady Boswell finished 25th suffering his first DNF.
“We really had to work on our car all day long,” Gus Dean stated after the 200 lap event. “We were just too tight all day. These MMM guys worked so hard to make it better all race long. I had a lot of fun my first time at LOR. It’s definitely a unique track.”
“I can’t thank GREE enough for their support. They’ve played a huge role in my season and I am proud to represent them. I am looking forward to being back in the car next week at Pocono.”
Brady Boswell wasn’t as fortunate as his MMM teammate. Boswell was collected in the final caution of the evening at lap 132 resulting in his first ARCA DNF finishing in 25th.
“It was a frustrating end to a very long day,” Boswell explained. “We made our way into the top-ten early but had to make an unscheduled pit-stop to make a repair and lost a lot of laps in the process. Our car was definitely quick; we were just riding behind the leaders letting them race.”
“I don’t know what we have to do to shake this bad luck. We’ve had fast cars every week just freak things happen to take us out of contention. I am looking forward to our final two races of the season at Kentucky and Kansas.”
Boswell started the 200 lap event in the 12th position while teammate Dean started in 15th. Boswell moved the No. 98 into the top-ten at lap 10 and was being patient when he was forced to come down pit-road. The No. 98 team lost 30 laps while making repairs. Once he returned to the track he was running lap times comparable to the top-five. On lap 132 Boswell was collected in a six car pileup in turn-one ending the No. 98’s evening. Boswell would finish 25th.
After starting 15th Gus Dean and the No. 78 team fought to make the car better all night long. After losing a lap at lap 41 Dean fought hard to receive the free pass at lap 90 and get back on the lead lap. Dean would receive minimal damage after going for a spin during a six car incident on lap 132, and would rally to bring the No. 78 car home in the ninth spot for his third top-ten in four starts in 2016.
