When it comes to short track racing, Corey Deuser is no slouch.
Deuser joins Rette Jones Racing after competing in the JEGS / CRA All-Star Tour Series for the past three seasons, including scoring a noteworthy win in 2013 at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway. Other accolades for Deuser include winning the Howie Lettow Memorial Rookie of the Year title and finishing second in series’ points in 2013.
For his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut this weekend at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, 18-year-old Deuser not only wants to impress, but the Rette Jones Racing (RJR) development driver is eager to fit in.
“I’ve been counting down the days,” said Deuser. “This is a great opportunity thanks to Mark (Rette), Terry (Jones) and the Rette Jones Racing team. I don’t have any desire to let them down. For me, this will be the biggest race of my career and I plan to make the best of it.”
Recently announced as a development driver from the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team, Deuser has spent some time bonding with his team, while also focusing on himself making sure he’s physically and mentally prepared for 200 grueling laps at a very demanding and ultra-fast half-mile.
“We’ve been preparing for this debut for a while, but collectively as a group, I think we are more than ready,” Deuser added. “I’ve been incredibly focused, doing what study that I can, making sure I can go out there and be competitive. I don’t expect us to go to the top of the board by any means when we first get on the track, but as long as we can make progress throughout the weekend, we’ll consider Winchester a success.”
While some of the field will utilize the slick new composite bodies for Sunday’s afternoon Herr’s Potato Chips 200, Rette Jones Racing will sport the older style steel body No. 30 5.0 Graphics Ford Fusion. Deuser and Rette together though don’t feel they’ll see a significant amount of disadvantage.
“Winchester is such a rough place, I think you’ll see a pretty close to an even playing field this weekend at Winchester,” added Deuser. “The speeds are incredibly high at Winchester and a little bit of contact is expected, so I feel like bringing a steel bodied car is in the best interest of our team. I’d hate to bring a new composite car and it get wiped out because of the Winchester environment. We’ll see though. Right now, I’m focused on a top-10 finish.”
Winning is the key element of racing, it’s what everyone strives for on a weekly basis, but for Deuser and his RJR team, they’d strike at the opportunity to hunt for a visit to Victory Lane, but for now they can’t predict the future, but will fight for every spot on the race track, just hoping when the checkered flag falls on Sunday, a strong finish is on their side.
Added Deuser, “You never know what Winchester will bring, but if we can contend for a top-10 finish no matter where that falls on the ladder, we need to take that and move forward to our next race. It’s Winchester, anything can happen. I’ve won there before and man, I would love to win there again!”
Rette says adding Deuser to his driver roster for the 2016 season is a real benefit to his growing operation.
“Corey has a lot of talent and we’re happy to have him under our roof,” sounded Rette. “I think Corey and Dominique (Van Wieringen) will mesh well and they will be instrumental in the growth of our team. Terry and I are very excited to see how his ARCA debut goes this weekend and we’re confident with his prior success there, he’ll be someone everyone knows they’ll have to contend with on Sunday.”
Following Winchester, Deuser will make the move from his home base of Lanesville, Indiana to Race City USA, where he is prepared to further launch his graphics company, 5.0, but also build a firmer relationship with his team.
“Looking forward to this summer and the future,” added Deuser. “Life is definitely good.”
In addition to 5.0 Graphics, Rette Jones Racing also welcomes Jones Group International, J-AAR Excavating, Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems, Pro System Brakes and Russo’s Tinting as associate partners for Deuser’s ARCA debut.
The Herr’s Potato Chips 200 is set for Sunday, Jun. 26. The 200-lap event will be broadcasted live on the American Sports Network (ASN) at 2:00 p.m. ET. The network will also carry a live stream through their website. ARCARacing.com will also feature live timing and scoring.
