Josh Williams Captures Father’s Day Victory at Madison in Montgomery Ward 200

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards veteran Josh Williams captured an emotional Father’s Day victory in the Montgomery Ward 200 at the Madison International Speedway (MIS) Sunday afternoon. The victory marked his second win of the 2016 season in only nine starts.

A late race restart with 14 laps to go saw Williams hold off a hard charge from Kyle Weatherman to solidify the win for his family owned team. Both of Williams victories have come on short tracks (Fairgrounds Speedway and Madison). Williams also becomes the first repeat winner of the 2016 ARCA season.

“This was a complete group effort today,” Williams said. “We weren’t even supposed to be here. We’re down on funds, and we came off the chassis dyno 45 horsepower down…not sure why. Other than that, the car was really awesome today. It was so hot that being down on horsepower probably didn’t hurt as much. I just want to wish my father a happy father’s day back watching back home in Florida.”

“I swear I could hear my dad in my headset…he always preached to me the way to win races was to get positions on a restart. He preached that to me from day one…that’s exactly what we did.”

Williams worked his way from the sixth starting spot to the runner-up spot in only 70 laps.

The veteran driver lined up on the outside for a lap 114 restart and rocketed to the lead coming off of turn two. Williams would never relinquish the lead the rest of the afternoon.

This weekend also marked the fourth race of the 2016 Short Track Challenge presented by Protect Plus. Williams entered the Short Track Challenge points leader and extended his lead with the win.

Williams remains second in driver points and was able to gain important championship points on leader Chase Briscoe who finished sixth.
