Brandon Jones wins in the ARCA Racing Series in Michigan

Brandon Jones brought home his first ARCA Racing Series win of the 2016 season on Saturday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway. Driving the No. 8 Valvoline / Menards Chevrolet for Ranier Racing with MDM, Jones led the most laps en route to a victory at the two-mile Michigan oval.

After running in the top-five during both Thursday practices, Jones was posed to make a run at the pole position for Corrigan Oil 200. When multiple competitors ran into trouble during their qualifying attempts, ARCA was forced to cancel the qualifying session due to timing restraints while Jones was at the top of the board. As a result, Jones rolled off fourth for the 100-lap event at Michigan International Speedway. Fighting a tight racecar during the early laps, Jones had settled into the fourth position. However, a quick pit stop under caution on lap 30 both gave the Valvoline / Menards team an opportunity to adjust their Chevrolet and the race lead with a quick stop. With his racecar handling significantly better, Jones continued to pace the field until he came down pit road for fuel as the race neared 20 laps to go. Knowing he had plenty of fuel to make the distance, the 19-year-old patiently passed his competitors one-by-one, until he reached the second position. With less than five laps remaining, the leader ran out of fuel, allowing Jones to make a pass for the first position and the race win.

“All day long, we had an awesome Valvoline / Menards Chevrolet,” said Jones. “It was cool to get a win in ARCA’s backyard, especially after having so much success in the series during the early stages of my career. Mike [Hillman, Jr., crew chief] made great calls all day, and the team did an awesome job on pit road. With Valvoline and Menards being the sponsor of this weekend’s XFINITY race, it was great to win with them all here this weekend. I wasn’t sure what everyone else’s strategy was, so we just had to run our race and fortunately it worked out in our favor. I’m really proud that our No. 8 Valvoline / Menards team was able to get Ranier Racing with MDM their first win in the ARCA Racing Series.”

Jones will look for one more win in the Irish Hills of Michigan this weekend, as he races the No. 33 Nexteer Chevrolet in the NASCAR XFINITY Series race this afternoon. The race will be aired live on FS1, the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90, at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 11.
