Jones Captures ARCA Win, Briscoe Adds To Points Lead

Brandon Jones drove the No. 8 Valvoline-Menards Chevrolet to victory in the Corrigan Oil 200 at Michigan International Speedway. This is his third ARCA series win. “The Menards-Valvoline Chevy was so awesome all week long,” Jones told FOX Sports One in Victory Lane. “I kind of got a little worried in the end, didn’t know if the No. 58 (Kyle Weatherman) could make it on fuel, but we came out on top.”

Chase Briscoe finished second at the two-mile oval to help extend his points lead. “It’s a great overall points day,” the driver of the No. 77 Big Tine Ford said in a post-race FOX Sports 1 interview. “Obviously, you want to win but we’re leading the points and that always makes it nice.” With Michigan in the rearview mirror, Briscoe has upped his ARCA points lead to 1870 points.

Jones’ teammate Kyle Benjamin earned a third-place finish in the No. 28 FEVR Chevrolet. “I’m pretty pleased, we completed all the laps and that’s what we came here to do.” Benjamin told FOX Sports 1. “The (ARCA) series is about getting experience and I feel like we did that today.”

After leading both of yesterday’s practice sessions, today was not a good day for the No. 22 The Original Louisiana Hot Sauce Ford driven by Myatt Snider. After wrecking in qualifying, which forced Snider to a backup machice and going to the rear of the field for the green flag, the same thing happened again on Lap 28. “It just got away from me,” Snider told FOX Sports 1.”I was trying to get a run on Travis (Braden) and I messed up, was in it (the gas) a little too hard and it (the car) slipped out from under me.” Having a background on short tracks, Snider is going to have to break some bad habits on bigger courses. “Coming from short tracks, I’m used to just correcting to try to save it but here, (at Michigan) that shoots it towards the wall so I got to break about ten years of habits,” Snider said. It’s difficult but it’s part of learning. I hate it for my guys, that’s two this weekend.”

Kyle Weatherman came close to the checkered flag but with under 10 laps remaining, the driver of the No. 58 St. Charles Glass Ford ran out of fuel. . “It (the car) started stumbling actually two laps before we ran out,” he explained to FOX Sports 1. “It was unfortunate, we had a lot of issues, had a boil liner go out early, came down pit road, got it fixed and got our lap back and had a really good race car. It’s very unfortunate that we came up short but we had a fast racecar.” Ultimately, Weatherman finished 12th.

Next week, The ARCA Racing Series moves on to Madison International Speedway in Wisconsin for the Montgomery-Ward Father’s Day 200. Race coverage is scheduled for June 19 at 2:00 PM CDT on American Sports Network.
