A frantic ELITE 2 Race 2 closed the Autospeedway American Style at Raceway Venray and it was Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) who came out the winner from a Green-White-Checkered finish in which he bested Italian rookie Riccardo Geltrude (#7 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang), who closed a fantastic oval racing debut with the second podium of his career.
“I would like the victory lane to always be my home! The four wins this season they’re just incredible.Can’t believe it’s happening. The car was even better than yesterday. It was so good, I’m really happy,” said Longin in Victory Lane after celebrating in front of Raceway Venray’s packed grandstands. “I am now quite used to restarts, but when you are the leader you can kind of control it, so it is definitely easier. We’ll see in Brands Hatch if we can keep this momentum.”
Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang) came from seventh on the grid to third under the checkered flag thanks to a smart race and a very effective last restart, in which he overtook both Gabriele Gardel (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) and Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS), who ended up fourth and fifth.
Four cautions punctuated the last race of the weekend and the last one was triggered by a contact involving Freddie Hunt (#66 DF1 Racing Team Chevrolet SS), Gianni Giudice (#4 Scuderia Giudici Ford Mustang) and Marco Spinelli (#6 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang). All three drivers were OK, but track cleanup time forced race control to cut the race one lap short, making it a Green-White-Checkered finish.
Longin conquered his fourth win in row, further solidifying his lead over Tineo Arroyo in the points standings, now up to 28 lenghts. Martin Doubek (#5 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang) left Venray third in points, thanks to the 9th place in the ELITE 2 Race 2.
Marconi De Abreu (#47 Brazil Team Ford Mustang) bested Hugo Bec (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) for sixth, while Maik Barten (#21 Team Raceway Venray Chevrolet SS), Doubek and Guillaume Deflandre (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) completed the top-10.
Didier Bec (#31 McDonald’s RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) led the Legend Trophy in eleventh position, while Arianna Casoli (#8 Vict Motorsport Ford Mustang) couldn’t take part in the race due to the long time needed to complete repairs on the #8 Italicus Ford Mustang after the ELITE 1 Race 2.
The ELITE 2 Division will be back on track on June 11-12 at the historic Brands Hatch Indy Circuit for the fourth edition of the hugely successful American Speedfest. Once again all the races will be streamed live worldwide on Fanschoice.tv.
