There will be a new Spanish team on the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series grid in Valencia. SPV Racing announced that it will enter the official European NASCAR Series in 2016 with two cars and an international lineup, featuring drivers from Spain, Great Britain, Brazil and the first ever African driver to join NWES.
The clear ambition is to battle for the NWES title with Borja Garcia, who will drive the #1 SPV Racing Ford Mustang in the ELITE 1 Division. The Valencia-native notched 1 win, 9 top-5s and 12 top-10 in 16 EuroNASCAR career starts, finishing fifth in points in 2014 after winning his first NASCAR race in Germany and will enter his home race looking to start his season on the right foot.
“I am so excited to be back! The goal is to win the Championship and the opportunity to race in NASCAR in the US with it. To do it we will have to be immediately strong and it would be great to be able to win a race on my home track in Valencia, where I reached some very good results in the past but never won,” said the 33-year-old. “The new NASCAR Whelen Euro Series car looks amazing and I am sure it will be a lot faster, so we’ll have to take advantage of every minute of practice to fine tune our setup and go for the win.”
SPV Racing Was born through an alliance between Lars GV Lindberg, Spirit Racing and AVTECH founder and Raul Garcia, SPV Motorsport. Garcia expects SPV Racing Racing to quickly reach the top NASCAR Whelen Euro Series teams and counts on Borja Garcia’s speed and experience to speed up the learning process.
“We can’t wait to start this new campaign in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and we are working very hard to be in front from the start of the season to show how strong we are and that we can have our say in the battle for the title, that we can take Borja on top of Europe and to race in the US,” said Raul Garcia.
25-year-old Rayane Ait-Adjedjou will share the #1 car with Garcia and represent Africa and Algeria for the first time in NASCAR Whelen Euro Series history, bringing up to 17 the countries and to four the continents represented on the grid in Valencia.
“It is an honour for me to be the first African driver in NWES, it is a further motivation to do my absolute best,” said Ait-Adjedjou, who will race also for the Rookie Cup. “I had my first test on the car last week and I think it is great because you can really prove your talent in it. Borja is great driver and a great guy, I will surely learn faster with his help.”
Brazilian veteran William Ayer Jr. will drive the #69 SPV Racing Ford Mustang in the ELITE 1 Division, while British debutant Shawn Paul Wakefield will take the wheel in the ELITE 2 Division, competing for Rookie Cup.
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season will kick off on April 23-24 in Valencia with the third edition of the Valencia NASCAR Fest at the Circuit De La Comunidad Valenciana Ricardo Tormo. The event will be streamed live on Fanschoice.tv.
