Holmes Hits High Note in ARCA Debut

Bret Holmes went into Saturday’s Music City 200 with a chip on his shoulder. For the first time in his young career the Munford, Alabama native was making a start in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, and boy was it something to see. From the moment Holmes strapped into the car he was fast. In both practices Holmes ran in the top-10 in speeds and as the team (headed up by Grant Enfinger) made adjustments, it only got better. In qualifying, Holmes set the track record (19.216) in his two lap run that was only bested by Chase Briscoe, (19.178) which allowed Holmes to start on the front row for his ARCA debut. As the race came to green Holmes jumped into the lead and ran up front for a few laps before settling in the top-5 for the majority of the evening. As the race came to a close, Holmes needed a pit stop to put fresh tires on, but one did not come. Finally, as the checkered flag waived the 23 car sat in fifth place. The critics and fans alike were impressed as Holmes earned the SCOTT Highest Finishing Rookie of the Race honors. Holmes’ No. 23 car was purchased from 2015 championship ARCA team GMS Racing.

RACE QUOTE: ““To be honest we could have had a top-three or more,” Holmes said. “We were so much better on new tires. I couldn’t ask for a better car. I feel really good about my debut. We were one spot away from the getting the track record. Not too many people can say that.” I just want to thank everyone on the BHR/GMS team for all of their hard work, and what they have put in to make this team successful in its debut. We now have good momentum moving forward and are so excited to come back home and run in the Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega in a few weeks.”
