2016 KDDP Season Begins With Big Bang

The 2016 Kulwicki Driver Development Program started off strong with a resounding victory by Mount Sidney, Virginia’s Quin Houff in the CARS Tour opener at Southern National Motorsports Park in North Carolina. Houff and two of his fellow 2016 KDDP competitors — Marietta, Georgia’s Cody Haskins and Upper Lake, California’s Jeremy Doss, will take to the track this weekend as this season’s action begins to heat up.

Houff, who won the CARS Tour race at Tri-County (N.C.) Speedway last season, started third and dominated the 150-LAP super late model feature this past Sunday at SNMP. He edged out 2016 KDDP semifinalist and 2015 CARS Tour SLM Champion Cole Timm for the victory. For Houff, the win was a long time coming for his LFR Chassis team and the early season success has the #beatincancerwithduke driver looking for many more wins.

This weekend, Houff and team will travel to the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway to compete in the North/South Super Late Model Challenge presented by Team Construction which is co-sanctioned by the ARCA/CRA Super Series and the Southern Super Series. Houff will be making his first career start at the historic .596 mile oval. Action will get started with two 50-lap features on Friday night, with the top-12 finishers in each race, plus qualifiers from the last chance race, competing in a $5,000 to win, 75-lap finale on Saturday night prior to the ARCA Racing Series Music City 200. Plenty of tickets remain for both nights, but if you cannot make it to Nashville, both nights of super late model action will be broadcast live on Speed51 TV, which fans can purchase by logging on to www.speed51.com.

Cody Haskins celebrated his selection into the 2016 Kulwicki class by winning a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature at Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway. Haskins bested a competitive field and is looking forward to getting back on the track after getting rained out at Anderson last weekend. Haskins will compete in twin-75 lap features at the legendary Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway. As always, Haskins will be facing one of the toughest tracks and fields in all of late model stock car racing.

Haskins, along with KDDP classmate Alex Prunty, were both named to the PFC Brakes Team for 2016, picking up $1,500 of PFC product to use throughout the season.

Way out on the West Coast, Jeremy Doss will make the trek from California to the Las Vegas (Nev.) Bullring to compete the Spears Southwest Tour race this Saturday night. Doss, a former Southwest Tour Rookie of the Year, has added three tour races to an already ambitious 2016 schedule. His plans call for him to compete in the entire Pacific Challenge Series, plus head north to run the Montana 200 this summer. Doss is coming off a strong third-place finish in the Winter Showdown held February 28 at the Kern County Raceway against many of the same Southwest Tour competitors he will face this weekend. He will be back on the track again next weekend for the Pacific Challenge Series opener at All-American Speedway in Roseville, California.
