Gilliland wins NASCAR West race at Kern

The third generation has four wins.

Todd Gilliland won his fourth straight NASCAR K&N Pro Series race when he won the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Kern County Raceway. The Bakersfield race was a Pro Series West event. The win streak includes the final West race of the 2015 season, one 2016 Pro Series East race and two events this season in the West series.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for both Pro Series circuits and for the Canadian Tire Series. The three programs share a common rulebook. Because the competitors are already familiar with the tires, they are more easily able to race interchangeably in all three.

Gilliland’s father and grandfather raced in the West Series but neither reeled off wins the way Todd has since November. He set a track record with a speed of 100.161 mph in qualifying before leading three times for a total of 54 laps at Kern County. He averaged 58.708 mph for the race distance.

Gilliland beat second finisher Ryan Partridge to the finish by 1.287 seconds after taking the lead with nine laps remaining. Cole Rouse, Riley Herbst and Chris Eggleston completed the top five finishers.

The event attracted drivers from Columbia and Japan.
