Brass Racing Adds Marc Goossens To The Lineup

The decision has been made, BRASS Racing will enter a second car in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series for none other than Marc Goossens. “The Goose” will be driving a brand new NWES car and will be racing in the ELITE 1 Division. As in 2015, team owner Jerry De Weerdt will drive the #78 Ford Mustang in both ELITE 1 and ELITE 2.

The goal for De Weerdt is to battle for the Legend Trophy – dedicated to drivers aged 40 and above – in the ELITE 2 Division and finish as high as possible in the Challenger Trophy in the ELITE 1 Division.

It’s no secret that Jerry De Weerdt and Marc Goossens are friend on and outside the track. Marc had already been spotted earlier at Circuit Zolder when he was testing with both the NWES car and the Brass Racing Viper GT3. Jerry had been playing with the idea of entering a second car for a while ever since competing for a full season in 2015. Earlier this week, the decision was made and Marc Goossens will be driving the team’s second car. Marc is no novice in NASCAR racing, since he took part in two road course NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races and finished ninth in NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Mexico City in 2006.

“I am obviously here to get good results, but I am well aware that we will have to work hard. It’s been a while since i raced in NASCAR last time, the cars are different and so are the tires. I also haven’t driven a NASCAR car on an oval before, so we have some catching up to do with the teams who already have experience at the highest level but we want to score as high as possible from the start of the season,” said Goossens. “It is also my intention to help Brass Racing grow with the help of my experience and to look for ideal setups together with Jerry. The picture will have to be perfect if I want to close the gap to the fastest and more experienced drivers in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series”.

Marc Goossens is facing a very full agenda, since he is also active in the United States in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where he is defending the colors of Visit Florida Racing at the wheel of a Daytona Prototype Chevrolet Corvette. For Jerry De Weerdt and BRASS Racing, the arrival of Marc Goossens is a huge step forward and the team will do everything possible to assist The Goose in his hunt for the NWES title.

“The brand new car with the 2016 package will give Marc the ideal basis to go for the win in ELITE 1. I will be doing four races per weekend, combining ELITE 1 and ELITE 2 to try to win the Legend Trophy and the Challenger Trophy,” said De Weerdt, who won the Gentleman Trophy in 2015. “After a full season in NWES, I have gained a lot of experience and I will be able to learn a lot more from Marc. As always, having fun is very important for me, but once you’re in the car, you automatically want to go faster and get better. With Marc in the team, will step to a higher level and so will I. We will look for a driver for the ELITE 2 Division as well. There are already some contacts but nothing has been decided yet, so we still have a seat available for drivers looking for a great 2016 season”.

The  2016 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season will kick-off on April 23-24 in Valencia, Spain with the third edition of the Valencia NASCAR Fest.
