2016 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America Schedule Released

The 2016 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe, Asia and North America series will feature six double rounds on 17 of the most iconic circuits throughout the world, including circuit debuts and two street races.

The 2016 race calendar for all three series was unveiled Nov. 21 during the 2015 World Finals at Sebring International Raceway and features a six-venue, 12-round schedule for the North American series.

The North American series, in its fourth season, will run 10 of its 12 races at some of the most exciting circuits in North America before traveling to Valencia, Spain, for the final two rounds and the 2016 World Final, where all three Super Trofeo series converge to compete together.

The season once again will open April 29-May 1 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, as one of the four events run concurrently with the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The next round will take place June 29-July 1 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York.

Then Super Trofeo North America will race for the first time at legendary Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, on Aug. 5-7, followed Sept. 2-4 by the inaugural Boston Grand Prix. The street course event in Boston will be a first for the North American series and will run in conjunction with the Verizon IndyCar Series.

The season will continue Sept. 14-16 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, for the final two rounds on North American soil. Teams then will pack and head to Valencia, Spain, for the final two races of the 2016 North American season and the two World Final races at Circuito de la Comunidad Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, Nov. 17-20 in combination with the European and Asian series.

Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America has enjoyed tremendous growth since it started in 2013, with record grids in 2015.

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe will kick off in Monza April 23-24, followed by Silverstone on the weekend of May 14-15. One month later the series will race on France’s Paul Ricard circuit and, at the end of July, it will go to Spa-Francorchamps during the prestigious 24hrs weekend. After the summer break, on the Sept. 17-18 weekend, the series moves to the Nürburgring.

The fifth season of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia will start in Sepang in April. The calendar will then feature rounds in Shanghai in May and make its series debut at a new circuit, Suzuka  in June. Another intriguing round will be at the Thai circuit of Buriram in July. In the same month, for the second year in a row, the city of Sepang will host a street race. The sixth and final Asian round will be in Fuji.

Motorsport has become an even more strategic, exciting asset for Lamborghini, with the debut of the incredible, all-new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo car and the Huracan Super Trofeo GT3 in 2015.

Both were a new benchmark for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, built with a clear racing concept, with every feature engineered for sophisticated high performance and compliance with the strictest motorsport safety standards.

The Huracán Super Trofeo, which boasts a 620-horsepower V10 engine and rear-wheel drive, will be the only car in Super Trofeo competition in 2016.

Competitors and their guests will continue to enjoy the complete Lamborghini experience at Blancpain Super Trofeo North America events in 2016, including exclusive amenities and world-class hospitality in the Lamborghini Village.

Lamborghini also has announced plans to expand its racing program in North America by participating in GT Daytona (GTD) class with the Huracán GT3 starting in January at the famed 24 Hours at Daytona. Three Super Trofeo teams – Change Racing, O’Gara Motorsport and Konrad Motorsports – and Paul Miller Racing have confirmed their intent to run in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2016.
