Spencer Davis’ Strong Run Sidelined at Phoenix International Raceway

Making his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) debut, Spencer Davis was on the move in Friday night’s Casino Arizona 100 at Phoenix International Raceway. Driving the No. 20 Ruud Chevrolet for NTS Motorsports, Davis had proven himself to be a mainstay within the top 10 throughout the day; however, his charge through the field was slowed by an engine failure just before the race’s halfway point.

Making his first-career laps at the one-mile oval in the Arizona desert, Davis immediately found speed at Phoenix International Raceway. The 16-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia native worked closely with his spotter, veteran driver Rick Carelli, to learn the one-mile course during Thursday’s only practice. Recording the sixth-quickest lap of the morning, Davis repeated his effort later in the afternoon by securing the sixth starting position for the 100-lap race. With his Ruud Chevrolet a bit loose on the initial start, Davis was relegated to the 10th position early in the event. After spending the opening laps of the race working on his line to assist the handling of his car, Davis steadily improved his position and climbed back into the seventh spot by lap 30. Just a few laps later, following a brief caution period, Davis noticed something amiss with the Ruud Chevrolet that led him to bring his car down pit road on lap 44. After raising the hood, the team diagnosed a problem with the motor, leading to an early end to their race event.

Spencer Davis on Phoenix International Raceway:
“Racing the Ruud Chevrolet with NTS Motorsports has been so much fun this season. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Bob [Newberry], Rick [Carelli], Doug [Howe], Chris [Rice] and all the guys at NTS Motorsports. As always, they built me a great Ruud Chevrolet this weekend, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out quite as we had hoped. Honestly, there wasn’t anything that any of us could do to change the outcome. We know that our Ruud Chevrolet was able to compete with the rest of the field, and I can’t thank these guys enough for their hard work week in and week out.”
