Max Lanza is the new leader of the EuroNASCAR Challenger Trophy - Speedway Digest

Thanks to the victory achieved at Brands Hatch in front of over 40,000 spectators, Max Lanza is the new leader of the Challenger Trophy in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The Roman driver, at the wheel of the #88 Camaro fielded by CAAL Racing, secured himself the victory in Race 2 at the end of a weekend full of on-track action. Unfortunately, Roberto Benedetti had little luck, as he was injured during the Sunday race.

After setting the fastest time in the Challenger Trophy during FP2 and confirming his excellent form with a second-place class finish during qualifying, Max Lanza was forced into a comeback race on Saturday race due to a puncture, which led him to settle for fourth place in class. The Roman driver’s swift payback came on Sunday with an all-out attack race, sending the #88 Camaro to an incredible victory in the Challenger Trophy, very close to the overall Top 10. “What a weekend! Winning is always great, but doing it in front of such a crowd has a special flavor. We were fast all weekend, but we lacked a bit of luck,” commented the Roman driver, who now holds a margin of just 3 points in a final season rush that promises to be very intense. “Everything went right on Sunday, and a well-deserved victory came for me and the whole team. This year, the competition is numerous and strong; it won’t be easy, but we’re heading into the summer break at the top of the standings, having achieved our first seasonal goal. With three rounds left to go, two of which offer double points, literally anything can still happen. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy this victory!”

Roberto Benedetti experienced a weekend of mixed fortunes, with excellent performances in practice but unable to capitalize in the race due to two highly eventful heats. Arriving in England as the leader of the Legend Trophy, the strong Roman driver had to relinquish his crown due to a crash in Race 2, which resulted in a broken wrist and an early end to his weekend.

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series takes a break and will return to the track in September with the round at Most in the Czech Republic, the last event of the regular season before the Semifinals at Oschersleben in Germany and the Finals at Zolder in Belgium, which will offer an incredible spectacle thanks to the double points.
