Brody Roa Sets His Sights on the Golden Empire Clash This Saturday at Kern

Fresh off a relaxing vacation with his wife and daughters at the river, Brody Roa returns to action this Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series makes an appearance at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway for the Golden Empire Clash. It will be Roa’s first USAC/CRA appearance at the track since a win on April 29, 2023. The grandstands will open at 5:00 PM, hot laps will start at 6:00, and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00.

Refreshed after the family vacation, Roa will be back in Jayson May’s #8M sprint car. Two weeks ago, he steered the same car from a 9th place starting position to a podium finish when he took third at Perris Auto Speedway. Roa and May have already been to the track located adjacent to Interstate 5 one time this year. That came one month ago when the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, presented by Inland Rigging, visited the track for the first time. Fresh off a win in the inaugural USCS race across town at the Bakersfield Speedway two weeks prior, Roa qualified 10th fastest on the night and won his heat race from the second row. That established him as one of the favorites for the main event. However, before the main, Mother Nature attacked the track with two heavy rain showers that forced cancelation of the 30-lapper.

Dating back to 2021, Roa has been to Kern eight times. His busiest year at the track came in 2021 when he appeared there four times. Of the four, he won two open comp races and finished second and seventh in a pair of USAC/CRA shows. That should have been three wins and a second. He had a commanding lead in the first USAC/CRA race with five laps to go. However, the main featured a plethora of yellow flags, and that bit Roa when he ran out of fuel. He had to restart at the back and clawed his way forward to seventh in the final five laps.

The veteran Garden Grove, California driver only made one appearance at the track in 2022. That was for a USAC West Coast 360 race, where he finished 17th. Like earlier this season, in 2023, Roa’s first appearance at the track was wiped out by rain. He then came back at the end of April for the fourth win of his USAC/CRA championship season.

Saturday will be Roa’s ninth race of 2024. So far, he has recorded two wins, a third, a fourth, and an eighth. On two occasions, he did not start the main. At Cocopah on March 23rd, a broken drive shaft before his heat race knocked him out for the night. A couple of weeks later, when he was making his seasonal debut for May at the Mohave Valley Raceway, his steering wheel came off while qualifying. That sent him hard into the tractor tires that keep cars from entering the pits ending his night. The other race was the aforementioned rainout at Kern last month.

After this week’s race at Kern, Roa has a date with the USCS at one of his best tracks, the Santa Maria Speedway. It will be the grand reopening of the track that first began operation 60 years ago in 1964. One week later, it will be on to the USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto Speedway.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s race are $25.00. Juniors 6-12 get in for $10.00. Children 5 and under are free. The track is located at 13500 Raceway Boulevard, Interstate 5, and S Enos Lane in Bakersfield. The website is https://www.kernraceway.com/ and the office phone is (661) 835-1264.

The May Motorsports entry is sponsored by Winfield’s Racing Engines, RDM Mechanics, Cooper’s Propane, TJM Distribution, TJM Distribution, Ten West Towing, Arctic Sea Mining, Wesco International, Elite Signs and Fastenal.
