Ali Returns to Washington, DC to Compete in Red Bull GRC Washington

This weekend’s Red Bull Global Rallycross event in Washington, DC at RFK Stadium excites Nur Ali more than any other. The driver of the Valvoline/Tweaker Energy Shot entry is from Trophy Club, TX but Washington, DC is his second hometown.

“I love DC,” said Ali. “I spent several years living there and had some of the greatest experiences of my life. I graduated from American University, interned for Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) and from there I attended my first NASCAR race in Dover. The city is full of culture and history. Even RFK Stadium is full of history. It’s simply an amazing place.”

Ali, a life long Dallas Cowboys fan, never got the chance to attend a Washington Redskins game at RFK but respects its rich heritage.

“RFK was the site of some of the fiercest battles between the Cowboys and Redskins,” said Ali. “As a Cowboys fan, it was always known that any game played at RFK was going to be epic. This weekend, Red Bull GRC Washington will be no different. We bring that same level of ferocity and action packed excitement.”

Coming off his career best finish of fourth in the most recent round in Detroit, Ali has his sights set on a podium finish. The RFK course, at .980 miles with a dirt jump and multiple fast straightaways, suits the rookie driver’s style. His confidence is high.

“It has been no secret that I’ve had some trouble on the dirt hairpins,” said Ali. “This course is mostly tarmac and the dirt section is a jump without a hairpin. I finally feel like I’m on a level playing field. I just have to hit my marks and stay on top of it and we can have a podium opportunity. Wouldn’t that be great getting my first in DC?!”

The 12-race GRC Lites schedule in 2015, its longest ever, kicked off in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in May and culminates in Las Vegas in November. The eight-city tour includes four doubleheader events, as well as the class’ first trip outside of the United States with an October visit to Barbados. All races will be telecast on NBCSN. To watch the action from Washington, tune to NBCSN on Wednesday, August 19 at 4:30PM ET.
