Misfortune Ends Promising Run For Lowinski-Loh At Chicagoland

John Lowinski-Loh was behind the wheel of the No. 38 Lira Motorsports Ford in its debut in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at the Scott 150 at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday. He was just outside of the top ten before the midway point of the race when misfortune struck, in the form of an engine issue, ending his day early.

 

“We started the weekend rough, with a suspension issue in practice, but we kept digging,” John commented after the race. “We had to drop to the back of the field (P31) for the green flag, then I raced my way up to 11th place. The car was good, but before we could pit and tune her in even better, we lost a motor. I still have to say a big thank you to my guys at Lira Motorsports, and all my family, friends, fans and sponsors for all of their support!”

 

John had a right-front suspension issue on his second lap of practice that sent him into the outside retaining wall in turn four. Despite only completing one full lap, he earned the 16th fastest practice time out of 30 drivers participating in the two-hour session.   

 

Running one easy lap in qualifying to make sure his car was solid for the race, John’s lap time was good for the 21st starting position. The crew opted to make a few final adjustments to the Auto Go / Momo / Ford Performance/ TraqGear Ford Fusion after qualifying, which relegated the Massachusetts native to the back of the field for the start of the race.

 

John had gained 20 positions, and was in 11th place, when the terminal engine issue occurred on lap 45. He was credited with a 23rd place finish.

 

This was John’s third career ARCA Series race. He is currently seeking funding to run additional races this year, and also to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July.
