Bill McAnally Racing will be represented by four talented young drivers when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West visits Northern California’s wine country this week for the Carneros 200 on Saturday at Sonoma Raceway.
The race is the only road course event on this year’s series schedule.
Drivers in two of the BMR entries will get their first look at the twisting 1.99-mile track, while the other two will be making their second appearance there.
Brandon McReynolds returns in the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota, hoping to build on his performance of a year ago – when he came home fifth. After finishing 12th in last year’s event at Sonoma, Cole Custer will be back behind the wheel of the No. 00 NAPA AUTO PARTS/HAAS Automation Toyota for BMR.
BMR’s two Sonoma newcomers in the K&N West race are Chris Eggleston in the No. 99 NAPA Filters/ H2O Fire Protection Toyota and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular Trevor Bayne in the No. 60 AdvoCare entry.
McReynolds and Eggleston are running the full series schedule this season. Eggleston, in his freshman season in the series, has a 12-point lead in the championship standings. The Erie, Colorado driver is coming off his second win of the season, at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, California. In addition to his two victories, he has four top-five and five top-10 finishes in five starts.
McReynolds, 24, of Mooresville, North Carolina, is in his second full season in the series. He is ninth in the standings with one win and three top-10 finishes in five starts. He scored a major victory last month by winning the K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway.
Custer, meanwhile, has already been to Victory Lane this year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series – winning at Gateway Motorsports Park on June 13 while making his third start in running select events in that series. He also raced a limited schedule last season in the truck series, where with a win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway he became the youngest winner in NASCAR national series history. Custer, 17, can only run limited events at the national level because of NASCAR’s age restriction on racing at the bigger speedways.
The Ladera Ranch, California driver will be making his first start this season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series at Sonoma. Custer, a member of the NASCAR Next program that spotlights NASCAR’s rising stars, has four wins in 26 combined East and West series starts.
Bayne – who won the Daytona 500 in 2011 – is in his first full season of competing in the Sprint Cup Series, driving full-time for Roush Fenway Racing. The K&N Pro Series is not new to the 24-year-old Knoxville, Tennessee driver, however. Bayne has 15 starts in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competition, with all but two of those in 2008 when he ran the full season in that series.
Bayne also has more than 150 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
The Carneros 200, which will be televised on NBCSN on July 2 at 6 p.m. ET, is the sixth event on a 13-race schedule. It marks the 26th stand-alone K&N West race at Sonoma.
