Durham Racing Engines Wins Three Races in Three Days

Durham Racing Engines powered to three wins in three days with Earl Pearson Jr. and Josh Richards utilizing the Roush Yates RY45 Series engine platform. Both drivers are currently second in points in their respective series.

Pearson Jr. and Durham Racing Engines collected their third Lucas Oil Late Model DIRT Series (LOLMDS) win of the year at Oshkosh Speedway Raceway in Wisconsin on May 15th. The win gives Durham Racing Engines a total of four wins with the LOLMDS behind drivers Pearson Jr. and Scott Bloomquist. The win is Pearson Jr’s 30th career victory with the LOLMDS. Pearson Jr. now has a 90 point advantage in LOLMDS points over second place Don O’Neal.

Pearson Jr. in his Lucas Oil Products, Dunn Benson Motorsports #1 FORD Fusion started the A-Main in third after winning his heat race. He quickly surged to the front and stormed to the lead on lap 22. Dennis Erb Jr. would slide past Pearson Jr. on lap 24 for just 4 laps as Pearson Jr. would power to the bottom and pass Erb Jr. for the lead on lap 28 and never look back.

“I’d tell you what, it was a heck of a race with Dennis, I’d lead a lap, then Erb would, back and forth, it had to be great for the fans!” said Pearson Jr. “I’d like to thank my car owners Carlton and Kemp Lamm, my crew chief John Pfeiffer, Brian Lucas, everyone else at Lucas Oil Products and Durham Racing Engines.”

Durham Racing Engines also provided the power to Jared Landers as he rallied from 14th to fifth to earn the Optima Batteries Hard Charger of the Race Award. The Comp Cams Engine Builder of the Race Award went to Durham Racing Engines for the victory.

The LOLMDS is off this weekend before the $20,000 to win “Clash at the Mag” at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Mississippi.

Hometown hero Josh Richards made the short 60 mile drive from his Shinnston, WV shop to Tyler County Speedway over Labor Day weekend with high hopes for the Jackpot 100 for the World of Outlaws (WoO). On Friday, he was second quick in qualifying, won his heat race and started the feature on the outside pole. Richards ran a close second to race leader Brandon Overton for much of the race before fading back to third on lap 34. On lap 37, he made a power move to the high side to retake the top spot. He would lead the remaining 3 laps for the win in front of a standing room only crowd in his home state.

The next night, Richards would qualify fourth fastest and win his heat race yet again at the bullring placing him in fourth place for the start of the A-Main. Richards would ride most of the race in third place behind leaders Chub Frank and Overton as they battled side by side for the lead.

“That must have been a good race for the fans,” said Richards “I feel like once I started moving around we started gaining on them guys and just kept getting better.”

The wins were Richards’ 51st and 52nd career victories with the WoO and earned him $19,325. He is now second in points just 84 behind leader Shane Clanton. The WoO takes a three week break before starting “The Great Northern Tour” with two races in New York and two races in Canada over the course of six days.
