Mike Janis raced to the qualifying lead Friday during the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing, co-presented by Pro Line Racing and the Real Pro Mod Association, is the third of 10 events on the season.
Janis powered his Jan-Cen Racing Engines Chevy Camaro to a run of 8.875 seconds at 245.45 mph on Friday to carry him to the leading position at Atlanta Dragway. He has three career wins and two career No. 1 qualifying positions. Janis was the runner-up at this event in 2010.
Pete Farber qualified second with a 5.907 at 246.08 in his ‘69 CRC Brakeleen Dodge Dakota and Danny Rowe sits third with a 5.911 at 247.79 in his Agave Underground Tequila ‘68 Camaro. Eric Latino is fourth and reigning world champ Rickie Smith sits fifth with a 5.886 at 246.30 in his IDG Camaro.
Houston winner Don Walsh is in the eighth spot while Bob Rahaim, the season-opener at Gainesville winner, qualified 16th after the first two sessions.
The NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series continues on Saturday with one final round of qualifying at noon. The first round of eliminations are scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
